Our Mission
Marian Home ﹣ Putting the Resident First
Based on the recognition of every human being’s essential dignity and eternal destiny, Marian Home & Village is concerned with meeting the health of the people in this community. Christ’s love for us was demonstrated by His healing of the sick; so we must serve all men and women in charity; regardless of race, creed, or ethnic background. Safe and comprehensive care includes ministering to the physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of our residents, their families, and their friends.
History Statement
The Marian Home is an extension of Christ’s mission of mercy.
Read Our Story
The Marian Home was established in 1960 in the old Combelt Hotel at First Avenue North and Seventh Street, by the Catholic Diocese of Sioux City. Sister Mary Leopoldine, a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Help of St. Louis Missouri, was the Administrator of the newly formed nursing facility.
The original Marian Home operated until 1974 when the office of Comprehensive Health Planning of Iowa approved the construction of a new facility. The 97-bed facility was approved by the board and requested the new structure be a “Diocesan Institution”. A corporation was formed and the Bishop of the Diocese appointed a priest to take charge of construction. An “open house” was held on April 25, 1976, and the Marian Home started to admit residents on May 26, 1976.
The Marian Home is an extension of Christ’s mission of mercy. Christ’s love for man was demonstrated by his healing of the sick; so the Catholic Home must serve all men and women in charity, regardless of race, creed, or ethnic background. In 1978, the Board of Directors saw a need to service people in another area of health care. Plans were drawn and construction was started on a twelve unit Independent Living Apartment complex, The Marian Village. The first phase of the apartment complex consisted of six single rooms, three two-bedroom apartments, and three one-bedroom apartments. In 1986, an additional seventeen apartments were opened for occupancy. The new addition consists of three two-bedroom apartments, nine I bedroom apartments, three studios, and two single-room apartments.
In 2015, The Marian Home nursing home underwent a 12 million dollar addition and remodel to enhance the surroundings for the residents to enjoy.
